BATON ROUGE, LA : 1 dead in Airline Hwy single-vehicle crash on New Year’s Day on Tuesday, 1st January 2019

One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Baton Rouge on New Year’s Day.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Latasha Harris, 36, of Prairieville.
Troopers reported the wreck happened on Airline Highway near the Jefferson Highway overpass around 6 a.m.
Sgt. Jared Sandifer with LSP said the investigation so far shows the 2018 Mercedes C300 went off the road, turned back toward the road, and hit the guardrail. He added the car then crossed to the other side of the road and hit that guardrail. Sandifer noted it has not yet been determined what caused the car to veer off the road initially.
According to investigators, Harris was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Troopers said she was properly bucked up at the time of the crash. However, they added they believe impairment “may have been a factor.”
As with all crashes on Louisiana state highways, blood samples were taken from the driver and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
