Monroe, LA : Eight people were in hospital in a five-cars crash on June 2nd 2014

Eight people were hurt Monday evening in a crash involving five cars on Highway 2 between Sultan and Monroe.
Troopers say a car was stopped on Highway 2 to make a left turn. Another vehicle stopped behind it, waiting for the first driver to turn.

Troopers believe another vehicle came up behind them, didn’t see the cars stopped and swerved into oncoming traffic.
One vehicle, believed to have had several children inside, flipped over onto its top. Another car also ended up upside down in a ditch.
Valerie Ballard was driving one of the cars involved in the crash, and was one of just three people not seriously hurt.
"They were crying over in that corner by the mailbox and doing their triage as much
as they could," she said. "It was hard, you could hear the kids crying and stuff - and I
feel so fortunate that god spared me.
She says the driver of a Dodge Durango swiped her minivan, as she waited behind another vehicle making a left hand turn.
The highway was shut down for hours as troopers investigated the crash. They say early indications are that the driver of the Dodge Durango wasn't paying attention. He told troopers that he looked up and saw the cars stopped in front of him, and swerved to avoid hitting them.

"I hope upon hope that all the people that went in ambulances and everyone else are going to
come through alive," said Ballard. "I hope no one dies. It would be a tremendous and wonderful
thing if no one dies from this crash."

The Washington State Patrol said two people were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A third person was later transported from a hospital in Everett to Harborview.
A spokesperson for Harborview said a mother and ten-year-old child were being treated there, and were in stable condition but being moved to the Intensive Care Unit.
The driver of the Dodge Durango is in Snohomish County Jail facing three charges of vehicular assault.
Washington State Patrol also reports that drugs or alcohol played a role in the collission.
