One person was killed Monday evening in a vehicle crash in west Charlotte, according to police.
Police have identified Dennis Damaschke, 61, as the victim in the single-vehicle crash. Police say Damaschke was transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
The wreck happened at 7:37 p.m. on the 6700 block of Wilkinson Boulevard.
Witnesses say they saw Damaschke's vehicle drift across the center line into oncoming traffic and hit a utility pole. Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Inbound Wilkinson Boulevard was shut down while crews worked the scene.
