JOHNSON MOUNTAIN TOWNSHIP, ME : Jackman man dies from injuries suffered in crash with moose on Saturday, 20th August, 2016

A Jackman man who suffered serious head injuries late Saturday when the car he was driving struck a moose has died, Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster confirmed Monday evening.

John Coyle, 31, was driving north on Route 201 when his 2005 Subaru Legacy struck a moose about 9:55 p.m., Cpl. Ritchie Putnam said earlier in the day.

Coyle was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was listed in critical condition Monday morning.

The animal landed on the hood and roof of the car, Putnam said.Coyle and family members, who were following him is separate vehicles, were returning to Jackman from the Skowhegan State Fair, according to Putnam.

Family members came upon the crash and called 911.

The Subaru was a total loss, according to Putnam.
