Tyre, NY : Central New York woman killed in Thruway crash on Interstate 90 around 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014

State police have released the name of the woman who died in a three-vehicle crash on the Thruway in central New York.

Troopers say 29-year-old Joel Sitts of Utica was driving west on Interstate 90 around 10 a.m. Thursday when he rear-ended another vehicle that was slowing down due to traffic in the Seneca County town of Tyre, 35 miles west of Syracuse.

Police say the car Sitts crashed into then rear-ended the vehicle ahead of it.

A passenger in the first vehicle struck, 62-year-old Cathie Garrison of Oswego, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 72-year-old Clifford Wilder of Oswego, is in good condition at a Syracuse hospital.

Sitts and the driver of the third vehicle weren't hurt. He's been ticketed for unsafe speed and following too closely.
