Jacksonville, FL : 8-year-old child killed when car crosses I-295 median into traffic on Wednesday, August 3, 2016

An 8-year-old passenger died Wednesday when the car she was in crossed the median of Interstate 295 into oncoming traffic and collided with two vehicles, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Keira Butler was in a Dodge Caliber with 19-year-old Dayshawn Brown about 5 p.m. when he somehow ended up crossing the grass median, overturning in the crash near Dunn Avenue, the Highway Patrol said.

The child did not have on a seat belt and died. Brown, who was wearing a seat belt, had limited injuries, according to the crash report. Both are of Jacksonville.

The others involved were 65-year-old Elizabeth Phillips of North Carolina driving a Honda Accord with 71-year-old Janice Lipscombs of South Carolina and 39-year-old Sherry Harris of Middleburg driving a Jeep Liberty. All were wearing seat belts, and no critical injuries were reported, according to the FHP.
