Girl killed, twin injured in SR 20 crash in Oak Harbor Washington

Janeah and Janesah Goheen were as close as two sisters could be. The 17-year-old twins played music for their church in perfect harmony. Church members say they even finished each other’s sentences. The fact that they’ll never see each other again is almost impossible for those close to them to comprehend. The two were on their way with a friend to celebrate Halloween in Seattle Thursday night. The crash happened along Highway 20 just outside Oak Harbor. An oncoming driver crossed the center line and hit the girls head on. The impact was so severe the girls had to be cut from their car. The state patrol says the driver who hit them was actually accelerating at the time. Janeah died; Janessa was driving and somehow survived. She is in serious condition at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.
A close friend of the twins, 18-year-old Alysha Pickler, was also in the car. She suffered a concussion and is expected to survive. Her grandfather is grateful beyond words.“I think it’s God’s gift that she’s alive,” he said from the family’s Oak Harbor home. “The other two, as bad as they were, she’s so fortunate that it’s not even funny.”
The suspect is being held at the Skagit County Jail facing a possible charge of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault. He suffered a broken leg. Police are awaiting the results of a blood toxicology test. They say he appeared impaired at the hospital. At the impound lot a pamphlet for alcoholics anonymous was clearly visible in his back seat.KING 5 is not identifying the suspect because he has not yet been charged. Court records don’t show any prior drunk driving arrests, but there are at least four speeding tickets. One of them came in January for going 28 mph over the speed limit. A vigil for all three girls involved in the crash is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Oak Harbor’s Living Word Church. Donations to the Goheen Family Fund can be made at Whidbey Island Bank branches.
