Nampa, ID : Woman and child dead in a crash near Marsing on Sunday night, August 21, 2016

A 5-year-old girl died Sunday night from injuries sustained in a crash that caused the death of a Caldwell woman earlier that afternoon.

According to the Ada County Coroner’s Office, Valeria Lopez died of blunt force trauma due to a motor vehicle accident at 11:15 p.m in Boise, six and a half hours after police responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Marsing Road and Riverside Road in Canyon County, east of Marsing.

Idaho State Police responded to the scene around 4:45 p.m. that occurred when Maria Lopez, 26, of Caldwell, was driving northbound on Riverside Road in a 2002 Dodge Caravan.

Cedric Esqueda, 43, of Sanger, California, was driving westbound on Marsing Road in a 2015 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a single trailer, according to ISP. Maria Lopez failed to stop at the stop sign, and the Caravan struck the trailer.

Maria Lopez succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

Esqueda was not transported. Maria Lopez’s passenger and one juvenile were transported by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.

Three juveniles were transported via ground ambulance. Esqueda, Maria Lopez and the adult passenger were wearing seat belts. It is unknown at this time if the juveniles were all properly restrained.

Whether Maria Lopez and Valeria Lopez are related is unclear.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
