One person was killed in an accident Friday morning when a car and plow truck collided on the Maine Turnpike northbound between York and Wells.

Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said 48-year-old Michael Sands of Waldoboro was driving a pickup truck northbound on the turnpike near mile 16 between Wells and York when he slammed into the back of a turnpike plow truck. Troopers said Sands was killed instantly.

Earlier a tractor-trailer crash on the opposite side of the turnpike southbound in the same area caused major traffic delays. The Maine Turnpike Authority said a tractor trailer jackknifed at mile 16 southbound at around 7:30 a.m. blocking all three lanes. There were no injuries reported.
