Yakima, WA : Union Gap man dies in semi crash on U.S. Highway 97 near East Wenatchee on Wednesday afternoon, August 17, 2016

A Union Gap man died at the scene when he crashed his semi truck against a tree Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 97, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The agency identified Benjamin Adelblue, 41, as the driver this morning after notifying relatives.

The crash was reported about 2:15 p.m. 21 miles north of East Wenatchee.

Troopers said Adelblue was northbound in a tractor-trailer combination when he lost control, left the road to the right, struck a tree and came to a stop.

A witness said a vehicle may have been preparing to make a left turn from an intersection near the scene, but the investigation has found no evidence that another vehicle was involved, according to a patrol news release.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Adelblue was wearing a seat belt, and intoxicants are not suspected of contributing to the crash, the news release said.
