Nampa, ID : I-84 closed due to crashes, snowdrifts on Wednesday, January 4th 2017

Interstate 84 is closed in eastern Oregon due to multiple crashes and snow blowing over the icy roadways, officials announced Wednesday.

Eastbound and westbound traffic between Baker City, Oregon, near exit 302 and Ontario, Oregon, near Exit 374 will experience closures for several hours Wednesday night, as officials work to clear the roads.

Snow, wind and icy conditions are creating challenging driving conditions for all travelers in the area, according to officials, who said the freeway will be shut down until crashed and stuck vehicles can be removed and the roadway plowed and sanded.

The eastbound closure is expected to move to La Grande, then Pendleton as eastbound trucks fill truck stops and local roadways in Baker City and La Grande, creating safety hazards for those communities.
