ST. JOE, IN : S.R. 1 collision injures two on February, Monday 12th 2018

A crash Monday at 8:38 p.m. north of St. Joe injured both drivers, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Nikalys McKean, 18, of Auburn suffered internal injuries.

Judy Watson, 65, of St. Joe complained of pain to her legs and hands.

Both drivers were transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center at Fort Wayne for immediate treatment. McKean was listed in critical/unstable condition. Watson suffered minor injuries.

Police said McKean was traveling north on S.R. 1 and failed to yield for a stop sign at the intersection with S.R. 8. A news release said he pulled out directly in front of Watson, who was traveling east on S.R. 8.

Watson’s 2005 Ford Freestyle struck McKean’s 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser broadside. McKean’s vehicle went off the northeast corner of the intersection, hit a utility pole and continued traveling into a field. Watson’s vehicle went off the north side of the roadway into a field.

The Butler Fire Department, Indiana State Police, DeKalb EMS and Northeast Fire assisted county police.
