State police say a 43-year-old man died after he ran a stop sign in Pointe Coupee Parish and struck an 18-wheeler. Trooper Jared Sandifer says Michael J. Jarreau (JAR'-roh), of Fordoche (for-dohsh), was headed south on La. Highway 81 shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday when he came to the U.S. 190 intersection and failed to stop at the stop sign. As he went through the intersection, Sandifer says Jarreau's car hit the rear corner of a tractor-trailer headed west on U.S. 190 near Livonia (luh-VOH'-nyuh). He says was not wearing his seat belt.
