Clarksville, TN :Woman killed in Aug. 4 crash on Friday, 12th August, 2016

The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate an Aug. 4 crash on Highway 149 that killed a Stewart resident.

According to a preliminary THP report released on Aug. 11, the head-on crash occurred around 5 p.m. on the Stewart County section of 149.

Dorothy Anne Sykes, 67, of Stewart, was driving west toward Erin in a 2008 Jeep Cherokee when it crossed the center line and hit an oncoming vehicle.

Nicole Briggs, 29, of Waverly was heading east on the highway driving a 2012 Dodge Journey when it was hit head-on.

Briggs was injured and transported via ambulance to a hospital.Sykes, who was a volunteer at Houston County Archives, was killed in the crash.The report indicates both drivers were wearing seat belts.

THP spokesman Travis Plotzer said investigators are trying to determine why Sykes’ vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane.
