Alpine County, CA : San Andreas residents badly injured in crash on Highway 4, east of Bear Valley Road on Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Veronica Pargett, 74, and John Pargett, 80, of San Andreas, were seriously injured in a car accident at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they crashed their car on Highway 4, east of Bear Valley Road.

Both were flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with severe injuries.

California Highway Patrol Officer Toby Butzler stated that the driver, Veronia Pargett, drifted off the shoulder for an unknown reason. She over-corrected the car, causing it to flip and strike the passenger side into a tree, the CHP said.

Both she and her husband were trapped in the vehicle with serious injuries. Emergency crews freed them upon arrival and immediately released them to medical assistance, the CHP said.
