Beaumont, TX : Four injured in multiple vehicle crash in Jasper on Sunday, 28th August, 2016

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public safety responded to a multiple vehicle accident that injured several people and shut down Highway 63 in Jasper Aug. 28, Trooper Stephanie Davis reports.

According to a news release from Davis, DPS received a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles on Highway 63, approximately one mile outside of Jasper city limits, at approximately 4:25 p.m.

Responding troopers learned that a Lincoln passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 63. A 2015 Ford pickup truck towing a boat was also traveling eastbound, directly behind the Lincoln, with a 1998 Ford SUV traveling eastbound behind the Ford pickup truck.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Lincoln crossed the center dividing line and struck a Pontiac passenger vehicle head-on. To avoid being involved in the crash, the driver of the Ford pickup truck slammed on the brakes which caused the vehicle to spin. As the Ford pickup truck spun, the Ford SUV collided with the boat that was being towed by the Ford pickup truck.

The driver of the Pontiac, 19-year-old Micah Spell of Orange, and his passenger, Carly Beurskens, 19, of Kansas, were both transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Ford SUV, 18-year-old Jefferson Brown, and his passenger, Jermany Wooten, 19, both of Colmesneil, were transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck, 39-year-old Jason Neel of Nome, and his two passengers did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

The driver of the Lincoln, 17-year-old Lorenzo Thomas of Jasper, was not injured.

Thomas was issued a traffic citation for failure to drive in a single lane.

The roadway was closed for about an hour before reopening.
