Dawson, N.D : N.D. man flees I-94 crash on foot, arrested on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017

A 50-year-old Tappen man who authorities say fled after his pickup rolled and was struck by a semi truck on Interstate 94 was arrested near the crash site Monday, Jan. 30.

James Dewey, the driver of a 2002 Ford Explorer, was transported to the Burleigh County Correctional Center after he was treated for minor injuries, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release.

According to the patrol, Dewey and passenger Summer Maxon, 28, of Tappen, were eastbound on I-94 two miles east of Dawson just before 6 p.m. when his vehicle entered the ditch, overturned and rolled through the median into the eastbound lane. A 2015 Peterbilt semi, driven by Kyle Olson of Lake Park, Minn., then rear-ended the pickup, the patrol said. Both vehicles came to rest upright in the south ditch.

Dewey fled the scene on foot but was found a short time later, the patrol said. He was arrested for charges from the crash.

Maxon was transported to Bismarck with serious injuries.

Olson, the only person noted wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.
