PITTSFIELD, PA : Biker suffers 'significant' injuries after hitting tractor in Pittsfield crash on Wednesday, 11th September 2019

A city man suffered serious injuries Wednesday after his motorcycle collided with a farm tractor on Osceola Street.

Jason Deines, 29, was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment. Pittsfield Police Sgt. Nicholas DeSantis described his injuries as "significant."

Authorities responded to Osceola Street and Redmond Lane at 2:35 p.m. and found Deines on the ground, according to DeSantis. A preliminary investigation indicated that Deines had been traveling on Osceola Street behind a tractor, when the driver of the tractor, Dan Conant, attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Redmond Lane. Deines attempted to pass the tractor on the right, and the two vehicles collided, DeSantis said.

Conant, 57, of Pittsfield was not injured.

Conant told The Eagle he was coming down the hill on Gale Avenue heading back to Forthill Farm after mowing grass at St. Joseph Cemetery when the crash occurred. He said he was taking back roads to avoid traffic.

Deines was "going like a bat out of hell," according to Conant. When Deines passed the tractor on the right, trying to squeeze between the tractor and the curb, he caught his bike on the front right wheel of the tractor, Conant said.

"I just hope he's OK," Conant said.
