Washington , DC : MTPD police officer injured and utility pole damaged in Crash at between Pennsylvania Avenue and Alabama Avenue on Friday ,March 13th 2015

A damaged utility pole from an overnight crash has closed a portion of Branch Avenue in southeast D.C. early Friday.

Branch Avenue between Pennsylvania Avenue and Alabama Avenue is closed in both directions to traffic due to downed pole.

The utility pole, which is owned by Pepco, was damaged in a head-on collision involving a Metropolitan Transit Police (MTPD) car and another car around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The pole was knocked down in the collision.

The MTPD police officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The status of the driver in the other car is unclear.

Pepco crews are currently on scene. It is unclear when the street will reopen. Pennsylvania Avenue is open to traffic.

Drivers are warned to expect delays and seek alternate routes, if possible.
