Cape Girardeau, MO : Wappapello child in serious condition after a crash in St. Louis on Saturday, August 13, 2016

A 6-year-old girl from Wappapello, Missouri, is in stable but serious condition at a children’s hospital in St. Louis after an accident Saturday three miles west of Cape Girardeau, according to state troopers.

The girl and her two siblings, ages 13 and 10, were in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by John J. Sisk, 34, of Wappapello about 12:30 p.m. traveling east on Route AB, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report written by Sgt. M.D. Lynch. The trailblazer tried to pass another vehicle but lost control on the rain-covered roadway, Lynch wrote.

The Trailblazer struck a concrete center divider, traveled to the left side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, struck an electronic railroad crossing arm and overturned in a ditch, Lynch wrote.

Sisk suffered minor injuries, and the 13- and 10-year-old occupants suffered moderate injuries in the crash, according to the crash report.

All the occupants were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center, but the 6-year-old later was transported to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, Lynch wrote.

The guardrail at the railroad crossing was destroyed, according to the report.
