Two people were injured in a five-vehicle crash near Grand Valley State University Wednesday morning.

Ottawa County dispatchers said the five-vehicle crash happened around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on the bridge over the Grand River near the intersection of Linden Drive NW near Allendale.

The sheriff’s office said the driver of a 2006 Buick Rainier lost control due to ice on the bridge then struck a 2009 Chevy Impala. The driver told authorities he could see traffic coming towards him, got out of his car and jumped off the bridge to ground below.

He was injured and taken to the hospital with a leg injury which deputies said is not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Impala suffered facial injuries and was treated at the scene but didn’t want to be taken to the hospital.
