Dallas, TX : Irving police officer killed in motorcycle crash on way to work on Friday, 12th August, 2016

An Irving police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash while driving to work Friday morning, police say.

Officer Mark Dahl, 54, worked as a motorcycle officer but was riding his personal motorcycle when he lost control and was thrown from his bike about 6 a.m. in the 7800 block of Valley View Lane, near LBJ Freeway.

He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Dahl had worked with the Irving Police Department for 19 years in various positions, most recently in the traffic division. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, police said.

"He left a pretty big footprint," Irving police spokesman James McLellan said Friday.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
