Two hospitalized after car crash in Rochester New York

The New York State Police Fillmore barracks is investigating a serious personal injury automobile accident that occurred at 2:42 a.m. Thursday on state Route 19 in the town of Hume.

Alek L. Potter, 21, of Hume, lost control of his 2007 Ford Focus. The vehicle went across the road and struck a road sign, then struck the foundation of a former church building.

Potter was flown by Life Net helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital where was in guarded condition.
The passenger, Christopher M. Jones of Fillmore, was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and underwent surgery for non-life threatening injuries. He was in stable condition today at ECMC.

The Fillmore, Houghton and Wiscoy rescue squads all responded to the scene. The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was also summoned to investigate. Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors. Charges are pending.
