Albemarle County police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a Louisiana woman Sunday morning near North Garden.
Evelyn Hamlett, 74, of Winnsboro, Louisiana, was traveling south on Monacan Trail Road at about 9 a.m. when the vehicle went off the right side of the road just south of Plank Road and struck an object, police said.
Hamlett was transported by ambulance to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries, police said. She was the only person in the vehicle, authorities said.
Police are still investigating the wreck to determine the cause.
The crash is the fifth traffic fatality to be investigated by Albemarle police this year, authorities said.
