Murfreesboro, TN : Driver injured in head-on crash during Murfreesboro police pursuit early Saturday morning, August 6, 2016

A 26-year-old man was injured when a vehicle Murfreesboro police were chasing crashed head-on into another car early Saturday morning.

It happened near the intersection of Mercury Boulevard and Middle Tennessee Boulevard around 1 a.m.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, officers where pursuing a Hyundai Sonata, which was suspected in a robbery.

During the chase, the car crossed the grass median and struck a Chevrolet Malibu head-on.

The driver of the Malibu, 26-year old Nathan Gage, was taken to Saint Thomas-Rutherford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Sonata, 22-year-old William Butler III, and his two passengers were not hurt in the crash. The THP says they fled on foot when their car caught on fire, but were found a short time later.

No details have been released about any possible charges.

The westbound lanes of Mercury Boulevard were closed for two hours while the crash was investigated.

In June, 28-year-old Jessica Campos, was killed in a crash as authorities were pursuing a driver of a stolen vehicle on South Church Street.

Also, one teen was killed and two others injured in a rollover crash while fleeing police in Murfreesboro in April.
