Fairhope, AL : Gulf Shores man dies after crashing his car into a utility pole outside of the Fairhope area Friday afternoon, August 5, 2016

A man from Gulf Shores lost his life after crashing his vehicle into a utility pole just outside of the Fairhope area Friday afternoon.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Spokesman, Jamie Maloy said that Douglas Edward Haviland Jr., 56, of Gulf Shores was involved in a single-vehicle crash at 4:46 p.m.

The crash occurred on Alabama 181 just north of Baldwin County 44, which is four miles east of Fairhope. He was killed when the 1998 BMW he was driving left the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Haviland was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital. No additional details on the accident were given by the ALEA.
