Weathersfield, VT : One dead and another injured from fatal car crash in Weathersfield on Sunday, August 28, 2016

One person is dead after a fiery crash in Weathersfield.

It happened this morning on Interstate 91. Police say a Chevy Tahoe carrying a couple from New Jersey crashed into the median, struck several trees, and then caught fire.

Police say the driver, 79 year-old Alexander Romanow was trapped in the driver's seat and could not exit the vehicle.

Passing motorists tried to help, but the fire was too intense. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Romanow's wife Jane was able to get out of the car-- and was transported to the hospital with a broke femur.

Police believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel causing the accident.
