A teen is dead after police say he was hit by a car while walking along the Bethpage State Parkway on Long Island over the weekend.
State police say 16-year-old John Ortiz was struck by a vehicle just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday in South Farmingdale. Investigators say Ortiz was seen by witnesses walking with a 17-year-old boy in the roadway prior to the crash.
Authorities say the operator of the car that hit Ortiz didn’t seem him. Ortiz was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other teenager wasn’t hurt.
The person behind the wheel of the vehicle remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
