Provo, UT : A 62-year-old Lehi man was killed in a crash on April, Saturday 22nd 2017

A 62-year-old Lehi man was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon in Saratoga Springs after attempting to pass a vehicle he didn’t know was turning.

According to Corporal Jason Ruch of the Saratoga Springs Police Department, the motorcyclist, David Mott, was riding with a group of motorcyclists from Salt Lake City to Eureka. At about 1:15 p.m. they were in the south part of Saratoga Springs on Redwood Road.

Mott was behind a truck towing a trailer, and an SUV. The truck slowed down because the SUV was slowing down to make a left turn. However, Mott didn’t see the SUV in front attempting the turn. Mott tried to pass on the left but was struck by the SUV.

Saratoga Springs paramedics and an air ambulance were called, but Mott died at the scene.

Mott was wearing a helmet. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The driver of the SUV is shaken up, but fine otherwise.

Redwood Road was closed for several hours while officials investigated the incident.
