GASTONIA, NC : Woman seriously injured in Gastonia crash on July, Tuesday 18th 2017

A woman was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 85 in Gastonia early Tuesday morning.

Gastonia police say the woman was driving on I-85 southbound near Exit 21 when she drifted into the left lane, hit a guardrail, over-corrected and lost control.

Witnesses say the car then hit a tree and rolled, ejecting the woman. No other vehicles were involved.

The woman, who police say was not wearing a seat belt, went to CaroMont Health in critical condition.

The roadway was closed for a time but has since reopened.

Police are working to identify the woman so they can get in touch with her family.

The crash remains under investigation.
