Wilmington, DE : Man critically injured after hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, August 21, 2016

A 31-year-old driver was critically injured early Sunday morning when he was hit by another vehicle in Wilmington, according to city police.

Officers were called shortly after 5:30 a.m. to Pennsylvania Avenue and North Broom Street for a two-vehicle crash, said Sgt. Andrea Janvier, a spokeswoman for the Wilmington Police Department.

The man was driving a 2003 Hyundai southbound on Broom Street when a 2014 Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed hit him coming westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, Janvier said. The operator of the Jeep then left the scene, she said.

The man was treated by New Castle County Paramedics before he was transported to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. He was listed in critical condition Sunday, Janvier said.

Police continue to investigate and said more information will be released as it becomes available.
