Duluth, MN : Two injured in Highway 169 crash on Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Two men were hospitalized Wednesday — one with life-threatening injuries — after a collision on U.S. Highway 169 near Coleraine.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports Andrew Arthur Francisco, 36, of Deer River was taken by helicopter to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth following the crash and was in stable condition Wednesday afternoon. Timothy John Dwyer, 55, of Grand Rapids, had non-life-threatening injuries treated at Grand Itasca Hospital.

Francisco was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix on the shoulder of eastbound Highway 169 when he entered the lane and struck Dwyer’s Chevrolet Silverado around 10:19 a.m., the state patrol said, causing Francisco’s car to roll over into the ditch and Dwyer’s truck to roll into the median.

Francisco, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pinned in the rear seat of his vehicle, which landed on its roof, authorities said. The man was extricated by the Trout Lake Fire Department; Itasca County Sheriff’s deputies also assisted.

Dwyer and a passenger in the Silverado, who was not injured, both were wearing seat belts.
