Monroe, LA : Columbia teen dies in Ouachita crash on Thursday, August 4, 2016

Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a report of a three vehicle crash on Louisiana 139 just north of U.S. 80 that claimed the life of a Columbia teenager at 9:49 a.m. Thursday.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Jason Lawrence, 17, of Columbia, was traveling north on Louisiana 139 when for reasons still under investigation, Lawrence crossed the center line, and side swiped a southbound 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Roberta Appleton, 54, of Englewood, Florida. After the collision, Lawrence continued north in the opposing travel lane and collided head on with a 2016 Ford F-250 driven by Michelle Crymes, 53, of Collinston.

All three drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Appleton and Crymes were not injured, but Lawrence sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ouachita Parish coroner.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
