A semi crashed into a tree Sunday morning on Highway 26, closing the Sunset Highway in both directions.

One lane reopened around 1 p.m., and the highway was completely open by 3.

One man was seriously injured, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.

The highway was closed for hours in both directions while thousands of pounds of compressed seafood waste were cleaned up.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m., when a truck carrying 40,000 pounds of compressed seafood waste went off the right shoulder and crashed into trees alongside the road.

The man driving the truck was seriously injured, and was sent by LifeFlight to OHSU.

His injuries were not life-threatening.
