Norfolk, VA : One person killed and three others injured in a crash near Chesapeake Square Mall in Western Branch on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2016

One person was killed and three others were injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash in Western Branch, near Chesapeake Square Mall.

At 12:45 p.m., police were called to the two-vehicle crash at Portsmouth Boulevard and Dock Landing Road.

A preliminary investigation found that the vehicles were heading in opposite directions on Portsmouth Boulevard, according to a police news release. One vehicle tried to turn left onto Dock Landing Road and was struck by the other. Two people were in each vehicle.

Three people were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with unknown injuries, according to the release.

Portsmouth Boulevard reopened to traffic at about 4:30 p.m., after being shut down for several hours.
