Boise, ID : Five people injured after two cars collided on Highway 44 and Highway 16 Monday night, December 22, 2014

Five people were sent to the hospital after two cars collided at the intersection of Highway 44 and Highway 16 Monday night.

Ada County Sheriff's Deputies say one vehicle, carrying two adults and two children, was traveling southbound on Highway 16, and had a green light to turn left onto Highway 44.

Deputies say the driver of the other car, Dylan A. Simington, was on 44 going west when he he failed to yield at the stoplight at the intersection, and crashed into the first vehicle.

Witnesses told deputies that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. Likely over the posted 55 mph.

All five people, including the two children, were taken to the hospital with what deputies called non-life threatening injuries.

One deputy told KBOI 2News that the children, ages 3 months and 3 years old, were properly restrained in child seats and that if they had not been, the injuries would have been much worse.

Traffic was detoured for about an hour and a half while the crash was investigated.

The sheriff's office took Simington into custody on an unrelated probation violation. Charges are pending.
