Inola, OK : 34-year-old woman dies after crashing into mailbox, tree in Rogers County on Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2016

A 34-year-old Inola woman died after her vehicle veered off a highway in Rogers County and smashed into a tree Wednesday afternoon, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Kayla Lowther was driving south on Oklahoma 88 just north of Inola when her 2009 Chevrolet Traverse left the right side of the road for unknown reasons about 12:50 p.m., according to an OHP report. The vehicle struck a mailbox before crashing into a tree.

Lowther, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was taken to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at 3:27 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
