Copperopolis,CA : Copperopolis man injured in motorcycle crash on January, Monday 26th 2018

A Copperopolis man sustained major injuries Jan. 20 when he lost control of his motorcycle after colliding with a car on Highway 4 near Copperopolis.

Roger Campbell, 53, of Copperopolis, was driving a 2011 SPCNS motorcycle westbound on Highway 4 near Stallion Way just before 6 p.m. when he crossed the double-yellow line before hitting the rear of a 2000 Chevy driven by Fred Ybarra, 59, also of Copperopolis, that was traveling in the opposite direction, according to a release form the California Highway Patrol.

Campbell’s motorcycle overturned and he was thrown from it upon impact.

Campbell was transported via air ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. The CHP reported that a non-Department of Transportation-approved helmet he was wearing offered “minimal protection to his head and face” during the crash.

Prior to the collision, Campbell was observed “driving recklessly” and “passing other vehicles over the solid double-yellow lines.”

Alcohol or drugs, in addition to a dangerous pass, are considered factors in the collision, the CHP said.

The highway was blocked for about 40 minutes due to the crash.
