Bethany Beach, DE : Two die in Bethany Beach industrial accident on Monday, 2nd November, 2020

Two men died Nov. 2 after falling into electrical wires while working on a Bethany Beach water tower.

The two men, 22 and 23, were from Puerto Rico and they were working for the Velex company to install new antennas on the Sussex Shores Water Company water tower, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.

The men were about 120 feet in the air at about 10:30 a.m. working in a Z135 Man Lift above Waterworks Court when a strong gust of wind tipped over the lift which became entangled in surrounding electrical as it fell to the ground, Pepper said.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene; their identification is pending notification of next of kin.

A southbound lane of Route 1 remained closed for about four hours during the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
