3 killed in single-car accident in Laytonsville Maryland

A single-vehicle crash early Sunday in Olney killed a young man and two teens, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

The accident occurred about 3:10 a.m. when a 2007 Toyota Corolla going east on Olney Laytonsville Road left the road and struck a tree, the department’s collision reconstruction unit said.

The driver, identified as Kevin Coffay, 20, of the 16700 block of Cutlass Drive in Rockville, fled the scene at the intersection of Volunteer Drive, but he was apprehended about three hours later. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The only other survivor was Charles Anthony Nardella, 19, of the 7700 block of Shady Brook Lane in Gaithersburg. He was sitting in the left rear-passenger seat and was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Spencer Datt,18, of the 5700 block of Sunrise Hill Road in Derwood, the front passenger, died at the scene.

Haeley N. McGuire,18, of the 5600 block of Artesian Drive in Rockville, was taken by helicopter to a trauma center, where she was pronounced dead. She was the right-rear passenger.
John Hoover, 20, of the 5800 block of Rolling Drive inRockville, was taken to Montgomery General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was the center-rear passenger.
