Brunswick, ME : Lisbon police locate driver who fled crash on Tuesday, January 10th 2017

Lisbon police Tuesday confirmed they had found the driver of a hit and run that occurred Monday night. No charges had yet been issued Tuesday afternoon. More information is expected to be released when available, including the identity of the driver.

Police had requested the public’s help in locating the suspect.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Monday, Lisbon police officers responded to a two-vehicle crash near Haggarty realty.

Lisbon Police Chief Marc Hagan said a small vehicle was headed east on Route 196 toward Topsham when the driver lost control, hit a snowbank and then hit a vehicle before driving away.

Hagan said the vehicle that was struck wasn’t damaged.

The offending vehicle was damaged and the driver was bleeding from the nose.

Witnesses told police that a light-colored, possibly silver, Toyota was heading eastbound on 196 and lost control in the area of Springworks Farm. The car crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a snowbank, grazed a fire hydrant, and then hit a truck that had just pulled out of Springworks Farm.

According to the witnesses, the driver of the offending vehicle had been speeding, passed at least two vehicles by NAPA, and was “all over the road” prior to the crash.

They also said the driver had been injured and had blood on his face, probably from a broken nose.

There was a female passenger in the vehicle, and witnesses heard her call the driver “Justin.”

The driver and passenger fled the scene, heading east on 196, prior to officers’ arrival. Parts of the offending vehicle were collected, from which police ascertained it was a Toyota — possibly a Corrolla or Camry.

Hagan said in Maine, any motor vehicle in the crash resulting in at least $1,000 damage or personal injury, must be reported. The fact that the driver fled the scene tells police there may be criminal activity involved, so police should investigate the crash.

“Thankfully, the passengers of the vehicle that was struck were uninjured,” Hagan states in the police department’s Facebook post. “This incident could have ended tragically, and our investigation into the matter continues.”
