Vancouver,WA : Lost load of bottles, cans leads to 2-vehicle crash on I-5 on April, Monday 16th 2018

A lost load of bottles and cans resulted in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Fourth Plain Boulevard Monday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The State Patrol said Ronni L. Denton of Vancouver was heading south while carrying bags full of cans and bottles in the back of her pickup truck.

Around 2 p.m., some of the bottles and cans started falling out of the truck bed, troopers said, and she pulled onto the left shoulder.

Traffic behind her slowed down to avoid the debris. Michael J. Mingus, 26, of Portland was in the left lane and swerved onto the left shoulder to avoid hitting another vehicle.

His Jeep struck Denton’s pickup from behind, pushing it into the median where it rolled onto its side, the State Patrol said.

One of Mingus’ two passengers, Kathy Y. Petersen, 59, of Vancouver, was not wearing a seat belt and was hurt, but declined treatment, the State Patrol said.

Mingus was cited for driving too closely, and Denton for failure to secure her truck’s load, according to the State Patrol.
