A Lincoln firefighter was killed and two public safety officials were injured in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 93 in Canterbury on Friday evening.
Firefighter and Grafton County Dispatcher Steven Bomba, 25, of Lincoln was killed when a red Ford F150 truck he was traveling in drifted off the roadway into the center median where it struck a cluster of trees. The truck was
driven by 29-year-old Michael Weden of Woodstock, a fellow Grafton County dispatcher.
The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m., as the truck was traveling north.
The impact of the crash also seriously injured a third occupant, Greg Collins, 41, of Piermont. Collins is a Haverhill police officer.
Bomba was pronounced dead at the scene and Collins was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Weden suffered non-life-threatening injures and was treated at an area hospital, according to state police.
Gov. Maggie Hassan issued a statement about the crash Saturday morning, commending Bomba for his service to his community.
“Dispatcher Steven Bomba was a dedicated public servant, not only through his service to his community as a dispatcher, but also through his bravery and commitment to public safety as a firefighter in Lincoln,” Hassan said.
“His heroic commitment to public service strengthened our communities and our state, and I join all Granite Staters in mourning his loss and wishing Officer Collins and Dispatcher Weden swift recoveries.”
At this time, police do not know what caused Weden’s truck to crash. The incident is still under investigation.
New Hampshire State Police Troop D, Canterbury police, Canterbury fire and rescue and a member of the state Department of Transportation all responded to the scene.
