Watertown, SD : Willow Lake woman injured in U.S. 212 crash on Monday, August 15, 2016

Laura Symens of Willow Lake sustained life-threatening injuries in the SUV-semi accident west of Watertown Monday on U.S. Highway 212.

Symens, 41, was driving a 2016 GMC Acadia traveling east on U.S. 212 when the semi, a 2007 International 4000 driven by 22-year-old Grant Lukonen of Watertown, started to cross the eastbound lanes and struck the Acadia, according to the S.D. Highway Patrol.

Lukonen sustained minor injuries, as did a 12-year-old boy who was in the Acadia. The boy was the only person involved wearing a seat belt.

All three were taken to Prairie Lakes Healthcare System by a Watertown Fire Rescue ambulance.

The Highway Patrol said charges are pending against Lukonen.

The accident happened at 8:35 a.m. Monday three miles west of Watertown. Other agencies on scene were Codington County Sheriff’s Office and Watertown Fire Department.
