One person was killed and another was critically injured Tuesday night after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with another car and overturned on southbound Interstate 880 near the connector ramp to Highway 92, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday. When first responders arrived, they saw two people trapped in their car. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was transported to Eden Medical Center with major injuries.

A traffic alert was issued at 10:48 p.m. and several lanes were blocked on both southbound Interstate 880 and Highway 92.

The cause of the collision was still under investigation.
