Mapleton,IL : Pekin woman killed in two-car crash at U.S. Route 24 and Cameron Lane on October, Thursday 12th 2017

A 21-year-old Pekin woman was killed Thursday afternoon after a two-car collision in southern Peoria County.

Kaitlyn Hines of Pekin was pronounced dead at 1:16 p.m. at the scene, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

She had been traveling south on Cameron Lane when she apparently turned in front of a westbound vehicle on U.S. Route 24 at the intersection just north of Mapleton, Harwood and officials with the Peoria County Sherifff’s Office said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Hines’ son, who was secured in a car seat in the back seat, was treated at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois for minor injuries, Harwood said. The driver of the other car, whose identity wasn’t known Thursday, was also taken to the hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

Eastbound Route 24 was closed for about two hours with traffic diverted onto the westbound lanes. The road was reopened at about 2:20 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation, officials have said. As of late Thursday, it wasn’t clear if any tickets had been issued.
