Chicago,IL : Car crashes after shots fired on Skyway on July, Wednesday 12th 2017

Someone fired shots at a car traveling south on the Chicago Skyway near 66th Street early Wednesday, causing the car to crash into a concrete barrier, police said.

A man was driving a red 2008 Chevy Impala about 3 a.m. on the South Side when people in a brown Dodge SUV started shooting at him, police said.

The man crashed into the barrier as he was trying to get away from the shooters, who sped away. He was not hurt.

A tow truck was seen removing the car from the Skyway after police arrived.

The shooting follows a murder-suicide on the Skyway near 87th Street last month that left a 49-year-old woman dead before a 30-year-old man turned the gun on himself. A tollbooth worker witnessed the act.

The Chicago Tribune reported in 2016 that expressway shootings have been on the rise as the city's gun violence spills onto the roadways. Last year, Illinois State Police recorded 47 shootings on expressways through early December, bringing the annual total to at least 10 more shootings than in 2015.
