Bend, OR : Bend man killed in Highway 97 crash on Friday, October, 13th 2017

The Bend man killed Friday after crashing into a guardrail and being ejected from his pickup truck on U.S. Highway 97 in Redmond was identified as 58-year-old Kim D. Houston, according to Oregon State Police.

Emergency crews found the 1997 Dodge pickup truck at 5:20 p.m. with nobody inside.

Houston was found on the Canal Boulevard overpass above the highway, OSP said. He was not wearing a seatbelt, OSP said.

Houston was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 97 and drifted out of his lane, striking the guardrail and rolling the pickup truck. He was ejected and landed on the bridge that spans over the highway, according to OSP.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. A dog riding with Houston was also killed.

OSP was assisted by Redmond Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Redmond Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
