Brunswick County, NC : Local attorney injured in head-on collision on Midway Road (NC 906) on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2016

A Brunswick County attorney was seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday evening.

The accident happened on Midway Road (NC 906) around 6:30 p.m.

According to the State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into a Ford Fusion driven by Frederick 'Trey' Martin.

Martin, a defense attorney in Brunswick County, was pinned inside his vehicle for about 30 minutes.

Trooper John King with the State Highway Patrol said Martin suffered serious leg injuries.

According to Trooper King, Jones, a golf course supervisor at St. James Plantation, had been working since 4:30 a.m. and fell asleep driving home.

Jones will be charged with careless and reckless driving and driving left of center.

Both men were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by ambulance.

Martin was scheduled to be airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, but the helicopter was cancelled due to weather conditions.

Jones was treated at the hospital but was not seriously injured, according to Trooper King.
