Hastings, MN : 36-year-old woman critically injured in a crash south of Hastings on Sunday, August 14, 2016

A 36-year-old Hastings woman was critically injured in a crash Sunday in the area of 230th Street and Inga Avenue south of Hastings. The crash occurred around 8:15 p.m.

Dan Bianconi, Patrol Captain with the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, said that the crash appears to be the result of high speed. One witness suggested the vehicle was traveling in excess of 70 mph on the gravel road, he said. He added that there is also a curve in the road in the area of the crash. The vehicle lost control on the road and went into the ditch, then struck a tree in a resident's yard. Witnesses called 911.

There were two people inside the vehicle. Both were outside the vehicle when deputies arrived, Bianconi said. The passenger, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was critically injured.

"That side of the vehicle took ... the brunt of the impact," he said.

Bianconi said Monday he believes the passenger to be in stable condition. The 33-year-old driver, also from Hastings, sustained less severe injuries.

Bianconi said that excessive speed appears to be the only factor leading to the crash. Although speed limits are not posted, he said that there is an implied 55 mph speed limit in that area.
